Alcohol Rehab for Japan

Substance Abuse Treatment Options

It appears that rehab options for alcoholism, alcohol abuse, and drug abuse in Japan are limited. This limited number of rehabilitation centers for alcohol and drug treatment may be due to the fact that substance abuse in Japanese society is seen more as a personal problem; the problem of alcohol and drug addiction isn’t given a public and national focus (accept, unfortunately, when it comes to arresting and locking up drug addicts vs. treating them). Consequently, intervention, detox, and counseling resources for alcoholism and drug addiction are limited.

Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse

Furthermore, the Japanese society, to some degree, embraces a drinking culture more so than in many other cultures. The availability of alcohol is high (including for underage youth), and advertising abundantly promotes drinking alcohol.

The following quote, written in an article in the Japan Times, exemplifies the cultural mindset regarding drinking:

“The pressure to drink, either for business or social reasons, remains strong, especially among members of my generation. Heavy drinkers are admired for their strength and forgiven for their rude behavior, which is ignored the next day.”

While the quote above speaks to the traditional, long-established drinking norms in Japan regarding men middle-aged and older, the culture has traditionally disapproved of such behavior by women of the same age and by younger people. However, regarding these latter two groups of people, there has been a changing trend: While the overall alcohol consumption in Japan has reached a plateau over recent years, alcohol consumption for women and young people has increased rapidly.

Drug & Alcohol Rehab Asia for Rehabilitation

Alcohol Rehab for JapanIn this environment, you may feel overwhelmed with your situation (or with the situation of a loved one who is abusing alcohol), and are not sure where to turn. However, while you may feel like you’re ‘swimming upstream’ in an environment not conducive for your recovery, you can begin to change your world. You can enter a recovery program at a top quality rehab and recovery center in Thailand: Drug & Alcohol Rehab Asia is here to help.

A flight from Tokyo to Bangkok is only about 6 ½ hours. DARA is located on the tropical island of Koh Chang in Trat Province on the eastern part of Thailand, so you’ll need to have a connecting flight from Bangkok to Trat. The flight from Bangkok to Trat is less than an hour with two direct flights daily provided by Bangkok Airways. Upon arrival at the Trat Airport, you will be escorted to Bangkok Hospital-Trat by an English speaking member of their staff. All clients, before entering rehab at DARA, will be admitted to Bangkok Hospital-Trat for 24 hours for a full medical assessment and observation which is included in the price of your DARA treatment package. If it is you need more than a 24-hour stay at the hospital for in-patient detoxing, you will, however, be responsible for the additional fees directly to the hospital.

At Drug & Alcohol Rehab Asia, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT has a strong level of empirical support (i.e., from research) for the treatment of alcohol abuse and alcoholism. Cognitive-behavioral coping skills treatment is a short-term, focused approach to helping individuals become abstinent from alcohol (and other substances). CBT focuses on helping clients to Recognize, Avoid, and Cope:

  • RECOGNIZE the situations in which they are most likely to use alcohol
  • AVOID these situations when appropriate
  • COPE more effectively with a range of problems and problematic behaviors associated with substance abuse.
