David Stanton
Drug & Alcohol Counsellor
David is a UK national. He has a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling from Bristol University (UK) and a Diploma in Addictions Counselling from London University (UK).
As well as being a generic mental health counsellor, David specializes in treating all obsessive compulsive disorders including all addictions, co-dependency, gambling and eating disorders. He has also worked extensively with victims of sexual abuse & domestic violence, and his experience includes family therapy and bereavement counselling as well. He’s an integrative counsellor using various theoretical approaches including Psychodynamic, Humanistic, Rogerian, and Attachment & Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
Before coming to DARA, for over 25 years, David worked in Europe and Africa in community based projects, prisons, psychiatric hospitals, specialized clinics (adolescent, eating disorders), residential treatment centres, homeless hostels, national charities, and in private practice. He has designed, developed and implemented various therapeutic treatment programmes, and has managed various projects and counselling teams in both community and residential settings. Additionally, David is an experienced group therapy facilitator, as well as trainer of other professionals, lecturing and providing workshops and information on most aspects of mental health and personal development.
Being interested in other cultures and people generally, David has been fortunate enough to travel extensively and has lived in many different countries. He’s also a proud parent of three!
David is a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and the Federation of Drug & Alcohol Professionals (FADP).
