Martin Peters, BA, RN

Treatment Programme Director

Martin is a UK national who has worked in a variety of settings within the Healthcare sector over the past 16 years. After receiving his BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Administration from the University of Plymouth (UK), his studies and passion for working with people led on to a Diploma of Higher Education in Nursing Studies with Registered Nurse status from the University of the West of England (UK). Martin has continued to undertake continued professional development, obtaining numerous Nurse & Midwifery Council accredited certifications in Mental Health and Healthcare Management. He is currently undertaking a Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with the University of the West of Scotland (UK) leading to a Diploma in CBT.

Martin began his career working with people with a dual diagnosis of Mental Health and Mental Handicap. He then went on to apply his skills in the UK prison system. His interest in working with offenders developed, and he moved to a Medium Secure Service in Forensic Mental Health where he worked with clients with mental health and substance misuse issues as a Unit Manager.

In subsequent years, Martin worked with Cornwall Partnership NHS Trust as a Community Psychiatric Nurse in various settings within the NHS—including as Senior Nurse on a 46 bed Acute Admissions Unit. Throughout his career, Martin has worked with people who have required support and guidance in a number of difficult and challenging situations. An experienced one-to-one and group worker in community and residential settings, Martin assists people in empowering themselves to live a life free from the grip of addiction and illness, working with complementary, modern, and traditional approaches incorporating best clinical practice. Martin has also had a wide range of experience in management and supervisory roles within established healthcare systems, and has provided consultancy services to a number of private and public sector organizations in the UK in terms of management, policy writing, accreditation and recruitment.

A firm believer in programme development and multi disciplinary working, as our Treatment Programme Director, Martin brings to DARA a forward thinking, open and person-centered approach to treatment provision.
