Alcohol or drug addiction is a disorder that affects your physical and mental health. Addiction may convince you that drinking and/or taking drugs is what your life needs, and that you therefore don’t need help. However, chronic alcohol consumption affects your health, relationships, and professional and social life. Cirrhosis of the liver, jaundice, stomach ulcer, loss of appetite, impotence, depression, anxiety and hallucination are just some of the health problems caused by addiction. Due to the difficulty in stopping drinking or using drugs on their own, many alcoholics and addicts need to get help at an addiction treatment center to once again get clean and sober.

People who do not suffer from addiction may wonder why you cannot stop drinking or abusing, even after you have lost everything, like career, education, family and health. You might have tried several ways to stop your addiction, but ended up failing. This is because addiction takes a hold of your mind, body, and spirit and requires professional help to break its bonds. The best addiction treatment center has highly trained professionals to help you come out of addiction. At Drug & Alcohol Rehab Asia, we diagnose the severity of your addiction and prescribe the right therapy and treatment for you to overcome addiction, and live a healthy and alcohol and drug free life.

Programs Offered at Addiction Treatment Centers

Detoxification: For some, detox is necessary. The withdrawal symptoms can be very uncomfortable and even dangerous when it comes to alcohol and benzodiazepines. Hence, when it’s needed, it is crucial to undergo detox under the care of a medical professional.

There are many different types of programs offered at addiction treatment centers, ranging from alcohol detox to long-term residential treatment.

Detoxification: For some, detox is necessary. The withdrawal symptoms can be very uncomfortable and even dangerous when it comes to alcohol and benzodiazepines. Hence, when it’s needed, it is crucial to undergo detox under the care of a medical professional.

Long-term residential treatment: Long-term treatment involves 24/7 care that occurs in a non-hospital setting. Patients become residents within a therapeutic community for anywhere from 3 to 12 months where they undergo highly-structured treatment and therapies geared toward long-term sobriety. These treatment programs usually focus on helping patients improve physical, psychological, and social well-being while developing a sense of personal accountability that will set them up to remain sober upon completing the program.

Short-term residential treatment: Short-term residential treatment is similar to a long-term program in structure but lasts for a shorter period of time — usually between 4 to 8 weeks. Short-term residential treatment aims to provide hyper-intensive treatment that is usually based around a 12-step approach. Inpatient treatment is usually followed by outpatient therapy and attendance of 12-step meetings, which can help prevent relapse after completion of a residential program.

Outpatient treatment: Outpatient treatment varies widely, with some programs offering intense programs while others are geared towards simple education around alcohol and drug addiction. The latter is often better-suited for working professionals or those with families who may not be able to undergo an intensive outpatient treatment program.

Individual counseling: Individual counseling occurs in a one-on-one setting between a patient and a counselor where they can focus on short-term behavioral goals. In this setting, patients can develop coping strategies and methods to help prevent relapse.

Group counseling: Group counseling leverages social reinforcement by facilitating peer discussions around recovery. Group therapy may be used hand-in-hand with some of the other types of treatment programs above for the best outcomes.

Prescribed Medications

Prescribed medication is sometimes needed as part of your recovery program, and we will work with your current medical doctor and/or psychiatrist regarding this potential need. Medications help to stabilize the chemical balance of the brain that was disrupted by alcoholism or drug abuse, and may be needed for certain conditions, e.g., depression.

Addiction Recovery Therapies

After detoxification, addiction treatment centers provide individual and group therapy. These sessions help deal with the underlying psychological issues associated with addiction. More often, such psychological issues cause the addict and alcoholic to use. Addressing these issues in treatment can help you acquire relapse prevention skills and maintain sobriety.

Aftercare

Once you have completed the treatment program, treatment centers arrange for an aftercare program to encourage and support you to stay sober.
